February 15, 1933, Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak was shot while shaking hands with President Franklin Roosevelt in Miami. He died on March 6. The event has always been portrayed as an assassination attempt on FDR, but there are those who think it was really a hit on Cermak by the Chicago mob. The gunman, Italian immigrant Giuseppe Zangara, a naturalized US citizen, was found guilty of murder and sent to the electric chair on March 30, 1933 – a quick execution.
